The tennis season is over for the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls team after a first-round playoff team loss and last Thursday’s individual play.
The ’Jacks lost a coin flip in the section seedings and did not get to play Hermantown as had been originally thought. Instead, they had to go to Hibbing-Chisholm Oct. 8 and lost 4-3.
Rosalie Lundquist won in straight sets at fourth singles for CEC, which also got doubles wins from Reilly Kedrowski and Alyssa Acheson at No. 1 and Breanne Baker and Katrina Smith at No. 2.
Last Thursday, the individual tournament was held at Duluth’s Arrowhead Tennis Center.
In singles, Rachel Collier won her first round match over Hermantown’s Madelyn Miller by 6-4, 6-2, but lost in the quarterfinals to Hibbing-Chisholm’s Mikaela Krampotich 6-3, 6-1.
Lora Chalich was the team’s other singles player; she lost her first round match to Mady Johnson of Big Lake.
In the doubles, Baker and Smith lost their first match to Grace and Anna Heyer of Duluth East, but Kedrowski and Acheson blitzed Olivia Kinziger and Mya Peterson of Duluth Denfeld 6-1, 6-0.
In the quarterfinals, though, the duo fell to Tina Matetich and Emily Milani of Hibbing-Chisholm.
