Bernice Jane Bertrand

Bernice J. Bertrand, 86, of Carlton, Minn., passed away Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. She was born April 1, 1926, in Sturgeon Lake, Minn., to Stanley and Martha (Martichusti) Stine and graduated Valedictorian from Carlton High School in 1944. Bernice was united in marriage to Donald Bertrand on Jan. 8, 1949, in Carlton, and was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Bertrand; two brothers, Thomas and Frank Stine; and four sisters, Mary Zentkowski, Irene Lepak, Angeline Wavrin and Dorothea Josslyn.

She is survived by six daughters, Sharon (Donald) Berthiaume, Suzanne (Richard) Erickson, Jayne (Keith) Hulten, Laura (David) Rosen, all of Cloquet, Victoria (Robert) Jauernig of Garrison, N.Y., and Barbara (Steve) Bassa of Barnum, Minn.; one son, James (Michelle) Bertrand of Richfield, Minn.; one brother, Leonard (Lena) Stine; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 13, from 9:30 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Catholic Church in Carlton. Interment service will be at Hillside Cemetery, followed by a luncheon in the church social hall.
