Talk about it

This morning when I turned on my computer to write this week’s news, I got the most heartwarming and thoughtful email from Judy Koivisto. I’m sharing it with you as our hearts are with all we know who have lost children or other important young people in their lives. I’m also sure that as she wrote this, tears were shed.

“On August 4, 2002, my granddaughter, Skye Rinta, died in a senseless car accident. At that time, her classmates planted a small apple tree (about 2 feet tall) in front of the Cromwell school. Each year I would look at the tree, it just wasn’t growing. At times I felt maybe they should cut it down. Mary Bridge called me on August 24, 2012, and asked me to come to the school she wanted to show me something. There was Skye’s tree (about 8 feet tall) with over 100 apples on the ground. I wish I could have seen them all on the tree but it was such a joy to see that on Skye’s tenth anniversary of her death that God brought some joy back, to see Skye’s tree bloom and bear great fruit. Jeanne Weimer is taking those apples and making apple jelly for me, which will be called ‘Skye’s Apple Jelly.’ Now each time I have some of that jelly it will be part of Skye.”

Sunday school will start up again at both Bethany 10:30 a.m. (after services for carnival activities) and Bethlehem 9 a.m. on Sunday Sept. 16. There will be the “Blessing of the Backpack” during the children’s sermon.

The Bethlehem Quilters will snip, cut, sew and tie as part of their “Quilts for Missions” starting Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. to noon at the church. There is a coffee break with fellowship so come and join them. No experience is necessary. All hands are needed.

Don’t forget to put the Cromwell Community Harvest Fest on your calendar of events. It will take place on Friday, Sept. 7, with the steak fry and continue on Saturday with the regular schedule of events. Look for posters for the complete schedule of events. Please try to attend this end of the summer event!

Arnold Dahl celebrated his 95th birthday on Sunday, Aug. 26, at the Sno-Gopher Building in Cromwell. If you were not able to attend, cards can be sent to him at 6646 Tam Acres Road, Wright, MN 55798. Let’s try to get him at least 95 cards.

Mike Peterson will be at the Wright Seniors on Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. with a program on Fire Awareness. Visitors are welcome to attend.

Our sympathy to the family of Bertha Irene Hill Borchardt, 84, formerly of Wright and now of Floodwood. She died on Aug. 22, 2012, in Duluth.

Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, was a tragic day for the family of Susan Hall (Allen) McPhail, 67, when she was hit and killed by the train on East Mud Lake Road in rural Cromwell-Wright. We don’t know many details of the crash, but those rural train crossings can be deadly, so please, please stop and look both ways before crossing those tracks. Susan worked as a teacher for the Carlton School District for many years. Our sympathy to all who knew and loved her.

Are you interested in fire safety? Well, the Cromwell and Wright fire departments are looking for new volunteer members to join them. The fire departments are getting pretty low on members and new young strong guys and gals are welcome to look into joining them.

The folks up at Cardinal Court/Villa Vista are looking for folks to volunteer at the Round Table discussion on Wednesday mornings. Just call or stop in and talk to one of the workers there to sign up. I know your help will be appreciated.
