The Cloquet “Hot Shots” U-13 soccer team spent several hours on the day of their final team get-together hauling garbage, shoveling and raking in the Fond du Lac neighborhood of Duluth, one of the hardest hit by recent flooding.

“It felt great to work as a team to help our community” said team member Sam Sabyan.

Teammate Sylvie “The Bullet” Deters is from Fond du Lac. To make it to an out-of-town tournament, her father had to take a motorboat almost a mile back in to their house to pack up her soccer uniform and equipment.

“Seeing all the damage to the houses along the river, and then seeing how much our team got done in a short time really gave us a sense of accomplishment,” said Anna Alberio after shoveling, raking and hauling dirt at the home of Dick and Perry Vitullo, residents hit by a Tsunami-like wave as a result of a landslide across the river causing a huge wave that crashed through their home and damaged the house, garage and even the garage across the road.

The Hot Shots finished the season with their best record yet, third place in the Gold Division.
