Arvid Axel Konu
Arvid Axel Konu, 96, of Cloquet, Minn., and formerly of Esko, Minn., died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, in St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minn. The son of Matt and Laura Konu, Arvid was born in Thomson Township on Jan. 24, 1916. Through the years, Arvid had been employed at Konu Dairy, Universal Atlas Cement Plant, was head of maintenance for Esko Schools, and drove for Kolar Chevrolet. He served as Carlton County Commissioner and was a member of Apostolic Lutheran Church in Esko and the Esko Historical Society. Arvid enjoyed vacationing in Galveston, Texas, and also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Dar Yaeger in 1993; sisters, Sannie Juutalainen, Ida Keinanen and Taimi Johnson; and brother, Emil Konu.
Arvid is survived by his wife of 72 years, Meredith of Cloquet; daughters, Kathy (Butch) Bergstedt of Esko and Linda (David) Cameron of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Cyndy (David) Stromberg, Patti (Jeff) Hilt, Kristin (Jim) Erickson, Joe Bergstedt, Molly (Matt) Swinney and Andrew Cameron; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Aug 5, in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet. Visitation continues Monday, August 6, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service in Apostolic Lutheran Church, Esko. Burial is in Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery.
