Kids have fun clowning aroundFor three weeks in July, the County Seat's children’s theater put on “Clowns,” by Craig Cassils.
For most of July, the County Seat Theater in Cloquet was filled with the sound of children laughing. That’s because for three weeks running, the children’s theater put on “Clowns,” by Craig Cassils.
County Seat General Manager Joel Soukkala said three different groups of mostly elementary school-aged kids each had a week to learn 10 songs and dances, figure out costumes and prepare for two performances by the end of the week. A total of 110 kids participated in the camp.
“We cut one song to make the show more manageable, however these kids could easily have learned two or three more,” Soukkala said. “It is amazing what they can absorb in that short amount of time.”
Next up for County Seat is the Teen Theater production of "Wiley and the Hairy Man" Aug. 13-17. The teenage performers will rehearse from 10-2 p.m. each day with cast and crew members of the adult group that is performing at the World Festival of Children's Performing Arts in Japan now, then they will take to the stage with the teenagers in one show only at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17.
