Welcome August, county fairs, vacations, cross country, football, volleyball, school shopping, etc. With that in mind, if anyone knows of someone who has recently moved into the community with school-age children, please contact the school to get their children registered for the fall. Call 218-644-3716 ext. 1000, 1001 or 1002. School begins Tuesday, Sept. 4, that’s in only a month!
Folks who vote by mail got their ballots this past week. The Primary Election is on Aug. 14, so they have to be mailed back in by then. Also, Eagle Township residents will vote at the Sno-Gophers Building for the primary instead of the school.
The Farmer’s Co-op Store in Wright will hold their annual meeting on Aug. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Senior Center in Wright. All folks are welcome to attend. There will be door prizes and St. John’s will serve the lunch this year.
The Cardinal Quilters Guild has donated two new easy-to-read clocks to the Cromwell Pavilion and also made a beautiful quilt for a prize at Harvest Fest. The group has members of all ages and levels of experience and would like you to feel welcome to join. They generally meet on the first Monday of the month at the pavilion at 6 p.m. In August, however, they will gather on Aug. 13 instead for a quilt store shopping road trip to the Twin Cities to some specialty outlet stores. Members and non-members are welcome to car pool with the group. For more information, call Carolyn at 218-310-8357 or 218-644-3670.
Congratulations to Jeanne and Wally Schulke on the recent celebration of their 50th (golden) wedding anniversary. They celebrated with friends, family and neighbors on Saturday, July 21, at The Bear Hook – their home place in rural Wright.
Several of Mary Anderson Katzmarek’s family, friends and classmates attended her memorial service on June 16 at Lakeview Covenant Church in Duluth. She passed away April 28, 2012, in Yuma, Ariz., at age 74. She will be deeply missed by those who loved her.
Cloyce and Vivian Murdock were the lucky winners of the grocery basket of food at the Co-op Store over Wrong Days. The winning guess was $126 and the actual amount was $126.38. Levi Hover, age 7 or 8, gets honorable mention as he guessed $1,000. With the way prices are going up, this is probably the amount he will have to pay for the same products when he grows up!
Elizabeth Drang celebrated her 100th birthday on June 29 with her two grandchildren and spouses and five great-grandchildren from Portland, Ore., and Allentown, Penn. She said: “To all my friends and relatives, a sincere thank you for helping me celebrate this special day which turned out so beautiful. Great to see everyone. Thanks, Elizabeth.”
Our sympathy to the family of Betty Lou Hotchkiss, 78, of Wright who died on July 23, 2012, in Superior View Assisted Living, Hermantown. A memorial service was held July 26 in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet, followed by a luncheon in the Fireside Room of the funeral home.
That’s all the news from Lake Don’tforgettovote and hello to all of you!
