To the Editor:
I truly think we Minnesotans have had enough of the right wing mindset that directs the GOP majority party in the state legislature. When the state runs out of money, they immediately insist that cuts need to be made, we lose services, state employees lose their jobs, and infrastructure improvements aren’t made. There is another solution, one that was used for many years that worked very well. Raise taxes on the rich. The rich now pay fewer taxes percentagewise than the total taxes we common folk pay.
The Republican legislature took away our homestead tax credit, we still have cuts in local government aid, and now we are looking at raising local sales taxes. Yet only one candidate in our district speaks of raising taxes on the rich, as if this group of people needs any more special treatment. This eternal delusion that the rich, by themselves, will create more jobs is absurd. Jobs are created by demand and if people aren’t working they are not going to buy more goods and services, and the economy stays stagnant. We need someone of vision and fortitude to represent us in St Paul.
I’m voting in the DFL primary on Aug. 14, because as a married carpenter with two small children, I am concerned about not only my own, but my children’s future as well. I’m voting for someone who I have seen fight for working men and women for 15 years. . . . I’m voting for someone who will stand up to the lunatic fringe. I’m voting for Mike Sundin for State Representative from District 11A.
