Arnold Francis Bassett

Arnold F. Bassett, 97, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, Minn. He was born Aug. 16, 1914, in Cloquet to Benjamin and Adeline (LaVoie) Bassett and graduated from Cloquet High School in 1934. Arnold was united in marriage to Carolyn Mason on Sept. 26, 1947. When he was younger, he worked as an ambulance driver for the Fond du Lac Hospital and then worked as a salesman and general manager for Stewart Furniture and Stowell's Furniture in Cloquet and for Anderson Furniture in Duluth. Arnold was the oldest enrolled band member of the Fond du Lac Reservation.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Burton, Wilfred and Everett Bassett; and four sisters, Marce Ojibway, Millie Tyman, Adeline Heren and Beatrice Harrison.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; two sons, Harold "Harry" (Gayle) Bassett and Richard "Rick" (Kim) Bassett; two daughters, Brenda (Michael) Pollak and Lynn (Jeff) Gort; one brother, Robert Bassett; eight grandchildren, Chris Bassett, Dan Bassett, Nathan Pollak, Jennifer Clement, Bryan Bassett, Meagan Pollak, Sam Gort and Ben Gort; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, July 23, at Nelson Funeral Care, 1004 Cloquet Ave., Cloquet. The visitation will resume Tuesday, July 24, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Interment services will be at New Calvary Cemetery, followed by a luncheon in the church social hall.
