American Red Cross to provide relief to victims of the Northland floods

The American Red Cross continues to respond to the Northland floods in Minnesota, sheltering, feeding and providing immediate help to those affected by the flash flooding that occurred last week. Hundreds were evacuated from their homes and the situation remains serious.

The Red Cross continues its operation of a shelter in Duluth and three Emergency Response Vehicles are providing mobile feeding for victims and responders in affected neighborhoods. The Red Cross has distributed 90 cases of water to the Thompson neighborhood, which reportedly could be without water and sewer services for two weeks.

The Red Cross is distributing Red Cross clean-up kits and emergency supplies. Clean up kits can be picked up at the Northland Chapter of the Red Cross at 2524 Maple Grove Road, Duluth.

This week, the Red Cross will provide meals jointly with the Salvation Army in the Fond du Lac neighborhood. Red Cross provided 150 lunches there already and will start client casework to evaluate disaster-related needs.

Casework to evaluate the disaster-related needs of flood victims will begin once Red Cross damage assessment is completed. Residents affected by the northeastern Minnesota floods who would like assistance from the Red Cross should call the Northland Chapter of Red Cross chapter at 218-722-0071.
