Update on flooding and road closures in Carlton County

According to the Carlton County Sheriff's Office, the Town of Thomson has been evacuated, as well as campers in Jay Cooke State Park. Jay Cooke State Park is closed as is Hwy 210 from Thomson into Jay Cooke State Park. At this time, homes affected on the east side of the City of Carlton are also being evacuated.

Significant areas affected in Carlton County include Thomson Township (Esko area), Town of Thomson, City of Carlton, many roads west of the City of Cloquet on the Fond du Lac Reservation, the City of Barnum, Town of Mahtowa area, and the city of Moose Lake area.

The Sheriff’s Office is advising no travel on roads in this area due to many road closures or high water levels over roadways.

The Red Cross Shelter site has been moved from the Carlton High School to the Scanlon Community Center for any Carlton County residents seeking shelter that have been evacuated from their homes.
