No travel advised in county, town of Thomson under evacuation
The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office is recommending no travel in the Carlton County area unless absolutely necessary due to many roads being submerged in water and several nearly impassable. The Carlton County Highway Department crews are out working and marking many of the dangerous road areas.
The most significantly impacted areas at this time are in northern Carlton County. Sheriff’s Office is recommending evacuation to residents in the Town of Thomson in the area around Hwy 210 and Vermillion Street to Dallas Avenue. No vehicle travel is advised. Emergency crews from the Sheriff’s Office, Carlton Fire Department, Esko Fire Department, and Thomson Township Police Department are available to assist evacuating residents. State Hwy 210 in Jay Cooke Parke is closed to vehicle traffic.
The Carlton High School has been opened up as an emergency shelter for residents evacuated from homes.
