A section of Interstate 35 in Carlton County will be reduced to a single lane in each direction, and several ramps will close, beginning this Thursday as crews work on a resurfacing project.
According to a notice from the Minnesota Department of Transportation, motorists will encounter single-lane, head-on traffic on Interstate 35 between Scanlon and Larson Road from Thursday, June 7, to mid-October. The lane restrictions are necessary as crews continue work on a major pavement reconstruction project.
Ramp closures:
+ The ramp from Highway 45 to northbound I-35 will close June 7 through mid-October.
+ The northbound I-35 entrance and exit ramps at Carlton County Road 1 in Esko will close June 7 through mid-August.
The project will provide a smoother, safer driving surface for motorists.
Highway 210 bridge work
As previously reported, the Minnesota Highway 210 bridge over the St. Louis River between Carlton and Thomson closed for renovation starting June 6. Traffic will be detoured until mid-October.
Westbound Highway 210 traffic should turn right on Carlton County Road 1, then continue north on Carlton County Road 1, west on County Road 61, south on Highway 45 and then back to Highway 210.
The rehabilitation project will extend the life of the bridge for about 50 years.
