A Level 3 sex offender living in Wright has been apprehended by Carlton County Sheriff’s deputies for violating terms of his parole by accessing a computer.

According to Sheriff Kelly Lake, authorities received information that David Edward Nikko, 42, had created a Facebook account and was accessing either computer and/or cellular telephones to utilize the account, which is not allowed under the terms of his parole agreement.

Lake said several different search warrants were served with technology companies and communications providers to ascertain that it was actually Nikko who created the account. Investigation subsequently led Carlton County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Carlton County probation agents, to Nikko’s residence in Wright. A search warrant was executed on May 1, at which time he was found to have cell phones in his possession.

Nikko was subsequently taken into custody and lodged at the Carlton County Jail awaiting a hearing before the Department of Corrections Parole Violation Board on Tuesday, May 15. He now faces the potential of additional prison time depending on the decision of the board.

Lake stressed that there have been no new criminal charges against Nikko stemming from this incident and that he has been compliant with his predatory offender registration requirements.

Nikko was sentenced on Jan. 11, 2008, to 67 months in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a juvenile under the age of 16. At that time, he was also required to register as a predatory offender upon his release.

He was released on Sept. 19, 2011, after serving out the terms of his prison sentence. He then relocated to the 6700 block of Pease Avenue in Wright. Prior to that time, a community notification meeting was held to inform residents of Nikko’s intention to move into the community.

Nikko has a history of sexual conduct with female victims ages 5-9, including fondling and penetration.

He remains under the supervision of Carlton County Probation.
