Dancing with Dad
The girls wore swirling tulle, polka dots, ruffles, and a few even managed to color-coordinate with Dad for Saturday's Father Daughter Ball in Cloquet.By: Jana Peterson, Pine Journal
The annual Father Daughter Ball is more than an opportunity for dads and daughters to bond while wearing their Sunday best, said REACH Director Dakota Koski.
“We see it as a way to give daughters a chance to learn how a date should go, how they should be treated,” Koski said, explaining that REACH stands for “Recreational Experiences Achieving Community Harmony.”
The Cloquet High School gymnasium was packed Saturday with gentlemen – dads, grandfathers and other male role models – dancing and dining with their special girl(s).
Koski said REACH sold 250 tickets to this year’s fifth annual Father Daughter Ball, but this year’s guests danced until the very end of their evening out, some of them staying up WAY past bedtime (the dance ended at 9 p.m.).
“I think it was the DJ,” he said, explaining that Erik Sundeen led the crowd for the cupid dance and the chicken dance. “Or it could be that they are all just another year older, so they can stay out later.”
