Sarprio B.B. Doranti, 50, pleaded guilty to two counts of fourth-degree assault in Carlton County Court on Wednesday. A number of other charges pending against Doranti, including indecent exposure, inciting a riot and terroristic threats, were dismissed.

The assaults from which the charges stemmed both involved a secure treatment facility employee, one where Doranti spit at a security counselor and one where he grabbed and twisted the person’s arm.

Public Defender Terri Port Wright said Wednesday’s action resolves all of the open files against Doranti, some of which date back as far as 2009. Doranti is currently committed to the Moose Lake Sexual Offenders Program (MSOP) but has been held in the Carlton County Jail since late last year following his most recent charges.

Port Wright said Doranti was scheduled to be transported back to the MSOP facility either Wednesday or Thursday where he will remain civilly committed.

In March, Sixth District Court Judge Robert Macaulay dismissed two different criminal cases involving Doranti “with prejudice” after repeated requests for discovery [evidence] from Port Wright failed to yield the requested information in a timely fashion.
