To the editor: School board welcomes communication

To the Editor:

Over the past couple of days I have received numerous calls from parents and grandparents relative to the school district’s proposed budget cuts. I love it! Call me anytime and about anything.

What needs to be made clear to the community is that the school board doesn’t suggest the cuts that have been proposed. The administration, superintendent and the principals meet to decide what they would be willing to cut from their schools. The decisions are not easy but they are the ones that make these initial decisions. Once their list is made it is presented to the school board at the next meeting. Most of the time we do not see that list until the board convenes. Our job is to vote “Yes” or “No” to their suggested cuts.

Nothing is decided until we take the time to look over their suggestions and hear from the community members interested in that list. Because a program makes the list does not mean that board members will agree to it. So, do call the board members to let them know what you are thinking, but you should also call your child’s principal and ask them “What are you thinking?”
