Our sincere sympathy to the family of Vera Eugenia Suhonen, 87, of Wright who died March 22, 2012, in Cardinal Courts in Cromwell. Vera grew up in Wright and graduated from Cromwell High School in 1943. The funeral service will be Sunday, April 1, at 2 p.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Wright.
How times change! Almost 42 years ago, May 30, 1970, Bob and I got married and I moved to our home on Center Road. There were lots of family farms along this road and even more kids being picked up by the bus for school. Now, with the death of our neighbor, Vera Suhonen, there is only one person left from our original neighbors and that lady is my mother-in-law, Elizabeth Hanson, and she is no longer living on Center Road, but in Villa Vista in Cromwell. So, now we are the old timers on the road and there aren’t very many kids along the road either. I haven’t seen the school bus go along this road for a couple of years either. There are some school-aged kids, but they seem to drive themselves to school now. Also, families are much smaller than the families with five to 10 kids we used to find commonly in the area. Now if a family has more than three kids it’s considered a “big” family. I grew up in a family of five and Bob of six, and I’m sure most of my readers were in bigger families, too.
Congratulations to Lily Kemi and Daniel Denton who both received an “Excellent” rating at the State Vocal competition. Also, congratulations go out to Kaylan Risacher, Lenore Collman and Josh Eliason who all received a “Superior” rating (the highest honor) at the State Instrumental Competition.
