Large field of candidates vie for office in Tuesday's Fond du Lac Primary

The field of candidates for Fond du Lac tribal chairperson and District I and III representatives will be whittled down in Tuesday’s Primary Election.
Tribal Chairperson Karen Diver will take on a field of nine challengers in the April 3 primary, including former tribal chairman Peter J. Defoe, along with John Henry McMillen, Peter Durfee, Ricky W. Defoe, Robert Abramowski, Alan Abramowski, Russell Savage and Wayne Dupuis.
Vying for the position of District I (Cloquet) representative are: Wally Dupuis, Lonny Susienka, Donald Wiesen, Thomas Whitebird, Kelly Diver, Kenneth L. Defoe Jr., Jeremiah Savage, Eugene “Eny” Reynolds, William L. Dufault Sr., Jerrold “Jerry” Ojibway, Carol Renee Jurek and Clayton “Jack” Bassett.
Candidates for the position of District III (Brookston) representative are: Dawn LaPrairie, Bryan “Bear” Bosto, Clarence “Chuck” Smith, Mark Maciewski, Debra Johnson-Fuller, Ernest W. Diver, Frances K. White, Sonya Skoglund and Kevin R. Dupuis Sr.
The top two candidates for each post will go on to the General Election on June 12.
Any enrolled member requiring an absentee ballot to participate in the Primary Election can request a form on the reservation website, www.fdlrez.com. Absentees ballots must then be filled out, signed and mailed to the Election Board address at the bottom of the form.
Hours of voting on Tuesday are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and polls are located at the Fond du Lac Tribal Center, 1720 Big Lake Road, Cloquet. Members of District I and District III may vote at their respective community centers if they so choose.
