Although Cloquet City Councilor Neil Nemmers resigned his council seat more a month ago, the city has yet to receive even a single application for his seat.

Granted, Nemmers served on the council for close to 30 years, so folks in the Fourth Ward probably weren’t expecting the long-time public servant to step down before the November election. At that time, the Ward 4, Ward 5 and the At-large council positions are all up for election.

“Please step forward and represent your ward,” Mayor Bruce Ahlgren said in a plea to audience members and CAT-7 viewers at the start of Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

The appointment would be for the rest of 2012, until a new councilor is selected by voters in November. The Council had hoped to appoint a new councilor by early April.

Ward 4 roughly encompasses the area of Cloquet west of Highway 33 between the St. Louis River and Moorhead Road, is bordered by Jarvi and Brevator Roads, County State Aid Highway 7. (Residents who don’t know their precinct can also search their address in the state’s caucus finder online at caucusfinder.sos.state.mn.us.)

Interested candidates who live in Ward 4 should submit a resume and letter of interest detailing the reasons why the candidate is interested in serving as Ward 4 City Councilor to: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator, 1307 Cloquet Avenue, Cloquet, MN 55720 or email to BFritsinger@ci.cloquet.mn.us no later than noon on Tuesday, March 27.

City wards will only have minimal boundary changes when redistricting takes place in April, Fritsinger said.

Here is the official legal subscription of Ward 4:
