The REEL Youth Film Festival, a celebration of Northland youth and their cinematic creativity, is currently looking for entries. The festival showcases youth-made short films inside the Free Range Film Barn in Wrenshall and is for students in grades K-12.
All films must be student created. The films will be critiqued by a panel of jurors. Deadline for submissions is May 18. There is no cost for submitting a film. Selected films will be presented at the Reel Youth Film Festival at 6 p.m. June 2 at the Free Range Film Barn.
A “Best of Show” film by a team or individual will be awarded a special prize.
The festival is free and open to the public. Donations are happily accepted at the door.
Filmmakers will be notified at least one week prior to the festival if their film is accepted.
Entries must be submitted on commercially playable DVD, DV or VHS media. Double check that your movie works well in your DVD or VHS player!
Originality is a must. The use of copyrighted elements without written permission from the author/artist is not advisable (if available, submit written permission with your film). Keep in mind that material (i.e., musical recordings, images, clips from existing films, etc.) created by somebody else belongs to them no matter what and is automatically protected under copyright laws. If you choose to use copyrighted material without permission, it is at your own risk and potential legal consequences are your responsibility. Credit must be given in your film to those whose material you have used.
Films must be appropriate for all audiences.
Films can be created by individuals or groups but must be the work of youth filmmakers, grades K-12, and may not be made by parents or teachers.
The maximum length of a submission is five minutes, with potential exceptions by discretion of jurors.
