We bid a fond farewell to Roy Norman Beck, 84, of Cromwell who died March 6, 2012, in Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center in

Duluth. Roy graduated from Cromwell High School and served in the Navy during World War II. He married Joanne Bergstrom on Dec. 18, 1954, and they made their home in Cromwell. Roy worked as an electrician at

International Multi Food Grain Elevator in Duluth for more than 30 years, retiring in 1992. During the 1960s he worked as a TV repairman in Cromwell and also farmed with Julius. Funeral services were held March 8 in Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell. Burial will be in the spring at Eagle Lake Cemetery.

Pennies for Patients: third place – kindergarten with 10,555 pennies; second place – 5th-6th grades with 10,974 pennies; and first place – 3rd-4th grades with 14,341 pennies. The total amount raised over the week was $1,201 – a fantastic amount of money was raised for this first year with Pennies for Patients! Thank you for all your support throughout the week with spare change bills and checks. Save your pennies and other loose change for next year’s penny wars.

Congratulations to the Speech Team for capturing third place at Bigfork this past Saturday! In Creative, Ann Collman earned first place and Karissa Sworski earned an honorable mention. In Duo, Lenore Collman and Kayle Johnson earned first place and Jake Krezowski and Taylor Jatkola earned third place. In Discussion, Justin Britton earned second place. In Drama, Cheyenne Lemm earned third place. In Humor, Annie Morrell earned second place and Olivia Warpula earned sixth place. In Prose, Vanessa Dickey earned second place.

Mark your calendars for March 16 for Easter Ham Bingo, as the varsity girls going to the Star of the North will be hosting bingo in the cafeteria again! Come win your Easter ham before you need to buy one. Look for advance tickets coming out in March. Bingo will run from 6 p.m. until done – 25 games.

Spring is coming, and so is ATV training. The Evergreen PAC Club is again offering ATV training. The classes this year will be April 28 in Barnum at the fire hall; May 5 in Palisade at the fire hall; and May 19 in Tamarack at the snowmobile club house. These classes are for youths ages 11-15. They must have had their 11th birthday by the date of the training session they are attending. Registration packets will be available in April at the local schools. Total cost for the course is $20 of which $5 is to be paid to Evergreen PAC Club at class and $15 to be paid online to the DNR upon completion of the class.
