Wright-Cromwell news for March 8 Pine Journal

It seems that I have to start almost every news column with an obituary and this week is no different. I have been asked by my kids, “How come you go to so many funerals?” Well, I tell them that first of all I have lived here all my life and I know almost everyone, and the other reason is that I’m retired, so I have the time to attend the funerals. I missed my share of them during my teaching days, so now can show the proper respect to those who have passed on. It seems that no one likes to attend funerals, but when we do, we sure feel a sense of community when we can offer our sympathies and concern. It’s not always what we say to the family that’s important, but the fact that we are there for the hugs and support. I know that was certainly true at the funerals of my close family. Without the support of family and friends, the death of a loved one would be so much harder.

We offer our sincere sympathy to the family of Irene Evangeline Iverson, 91, of Wright who died Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, in Sunnyside Health Care Center in Cloquet. Her memorial service was on March 3 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright. Inurnment will be in the spring in the Wright Public Cemetery. The family wishes to thank those who attended, sent cards or visited their mom in the recent months. Irene was a special lady to those who knew and loved her and she will be deeply missed.

Spring is coming and the Evergreen PAC Club is again offering ATV training April 28 in Barnum at the fire hall; on May 5 in Palisade at the fire hall; and on May 19 in Tamarack at the snowmobile club house. These classes are for youth ages 11 through 15. Kids must have had their 11th birthday by the date of the training session they are attending. Registration packets will be available in April at the local schools. Total cost for the course is $20, of which $5 is to be paid to Evergreen PAC Club at class and $15 to be paid online to the DNR upon completion of the class. Congratulations to Alana Groth as she was crowned homecoming queen for Carlton High School. Alana is the daughter of Dale and Carrie Groth. She is the granddaughter of Sally (Olesiak) Kelley and great-granddaughter of Dorothy Groth.

There will be an Easter Ham Bingo on March 16 as the varsity girls going to the Star of the North will be hosting this in the cafeteria again. Come and win your Easter ham before you need to buy one. Look for advance tickets coming out in March. Bingo will run from 6 p.m. until the 25 games are done.

A Cromwell-Wright school board meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 21.
