Esse to be honored at hockey state tournament

Longtime Cloquet-Esko-Carlton hockey coach Dave Esse will receive a statewide coaches’ award during the state tournament this weekend.

Esse will receive the Dave Peterson Award from the Minnesota State High School Coaches’ Association at ceremonies held during Thursday’s Class AA tournament games.

The Association website has the following description of the award:

“The Dave Peterson Award is given annually to a high school coach who has shown great leadership in developing youth hockey either locally or statewide. Dave (Peterson) was a great Minnesota high school coach at Minneapolis Southwest High School and a national coach at many levels as well. He was a leader in the development of youth hockey not only in Minnesota but across the United States.”
