Vichorek named Athlete of the Week

Montana Vichorek of Moose Lake was named Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week after recording outstanding athletic performance during the week of Feb. 13-19 at Bemidji State University.

Vichorek, a senior defenseman for the women’s hockey team, notched a goal and four assists against St. Cloud State University (SCSU) to lead the Beavers to a 6-1 victory Feb. 18. The blueliner had a role in four of BSU’s school-record five power-play goals against the Huskies. Vichorek’s shots from the point helped lead to three power-play goals while another shot got past the SCSU defense and Husky goaltender Taylor VanDenakker.

Vichorek missed the Feb. 17 game due to an interview for pharmacy school, but she flew back from Denver in time for Saturday’s game against SCSU. Her five-point night ranks second all-time at BSU for points scored in a single game.

The Athlete of the Week selection is the second of the season for Vichorek, who was honored Oct. 26 as well.
