FDLTCC students receive LaMarche Creek scholarships

The Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Foundation announces the LaMarche Creek Foundation 2012 Scholarships were awarded to two current students at the college. Scholarship recipients were selected through a competitive process, based on donor-established criteria for each scholarship.
Andrew Youngren, currently a Barnum resident and a 2011 graduate of Barnum High School, is a first-year student working toward completing an Associate of Arts degree in liberal arts at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College. After graduating, Youngren plans to transfer to either the University of Minnesota-Duluth or the College of St. Scholastica to pursue a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology. His career goal is to become a physical therapist. Youngren plays defensive end on the Thunder football team and is considering playing at UMD or CSS after transferring. He is the son of Julie and Chris Youngren of Barnum.
River John Roybal, a current Cloquet resident and a 2011 graduate of Duluth Denfeld High School, is a first-year student working toward an Associate of Science degree in human services at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College. After graduation, Roybal plans to transfer to a bachelor’s degree program in social work at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. His career goal is to become a school social worker. Roybal will be a member of the Thunder football team next season and is a member of the college drum group. His parents are Josephine Urrutia and Albert Roybal of Duluth.
The LaMarche Creek Foundation awards scholarships through the Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Foundation each year to eligible students. Funds to support the scholarships come from a generous donation from the LaMarche Creek Foundation. This is the ninth consecutive year the LaMarche Creek Foundation has supported scholarship awards to Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College students.
