The Carlton County Sheriff’s department is investigating a “suspicious death” at 1444 County Road 4 in Carlton County.

Sheriff Kelly Lake said dispatch received a 911 call at approximately 10:25 a.m. Friday from a person who said he was looking through the window of a home in Twin Lakes Township and he could see a man lying on the floor. He didn’t know if the man was dead or alive, but the doors were locked and he couldn’t get inside the residence.

During the dispatch call to law enforcement officers, dispatch said the man was looking in the window because he had arranged to meet someone who lived in the home that morning.

Carlton Ambulance and Carlton County deputies responded to the house and located the male, who was deceased. They also found a woman in the home, “suffering from an unknown medical condition.” The woman was transported by ambulance to Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet. Lake had no further information on the woman’s condition.

Lake said deputies observed no obvious cause of death for the man, but added that the body had not yet been examined by the county coroner.

“Officers were in there long enough to realize the man was deceased,” Lake said. “At that point the deputies stepped out to secure the scene.”

Deputies had strung yellow crime scene tape across the driveway entrance to the two-story home, which they took down when a Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) mobile lab arrived at approximately 3:30 p.m. In an interview at the Law Enforcement Center, Lake said her department had called in the mobile lab from Bemidji.

Names of the parties involved are not being released pending further investigation and notification of relatives.
