Laine, Lumberjacks hold off Eskomos in boys hoops

HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL: Adam Laine and Aaron Johnson had 24 points apiece to lead host Cloquet to a 68-61 victory over Esko on Monday night in high school boys basketball.

Adam Laine and Aaron Johnson had 24 points apiece to lead host Cloquet to a 68-61 victory over Esko on Monday night in high school boys basketball.

Dillon Johnson added 11 points for the Lumberjacks (13-8).

Casey Staniger had 23 points and Kory Deadrick added 17 points for the Eskomos (17-4), the News Tribune’s top-ranked small-school boys basketball team.

  • Laine had 15 points in Cloquet’s 81-42 home victory over North Branch on Saturday to top 1,000 points for his career.
