If you can help identify this portrait, or know any information about the piece, contact the Carlton County Historical Society at 879-1938. The piece is one of many “museum mysteries” with no information.
The Carlton County Historical Society needs help identifying some items in its collection that have no information about them. They are “museum mysteries.” Can you help identify any of these items?
The first museum mystery is a beautiful color oil painting of a woman wearing a stylish outfit and seated in a chair. She might be Princess Martha of Norway, who took a tour of America in 1939 with her husband, Crown Prince Olav. They stopped at the Carlton train station on their way to Duluth. However, official photographs of Princess Martha are not quite the same as this portrait.
If you would like a closer look at this portrait, it is currently hanging in the Museum Mysteries gallery at the Carlton County Historical Society museum, 406 Cloquet Ave., Cloquet. Call 218-879-1938 or email director@carltoncountyhistory.org if you have any information about this painting.
