Greyhounds sweep Cloquet-Esko-Carlton invite

Duluth East swept boys and girls team titles in the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Freestyle Invitational at Pine Valley Ski Area in Cloquet.

Mesabi East junior Sam Johnson won the boys 5.5-kilometer race in 14 minutes, 37.7 seconds and Duluth Marshall senior Joe Fairbanks was second in 14:39.3 and Grand Rapids sophomore Honza Cervenka third in 14;45.4. The top Duluth East finisher was senior Luke Israel, fifth in 15:07.7.

The Greyhounds had 365 points and Grand Rapids was second with 351.

Duluth East senior Anna Kubek was the girls winner in 15:30.4 for 5.5 kilometers followed by Ely senior Amy Bianco in 15:42.2 and Duluth East junior Sophie Schuder in 16:32.5.

Duluth East had 389 points and Ely was second with 367.
