Cloquet’s Community Scholarship Drive, which dates back to 1968, is now entering its 44th year. To date, the program has awarded approximately $430,000 in scholarships to Cloquet High School graduates. Last year alone, some $21,850 was awarded to 46 CHS seniors.

Scholarships ranging from $200 to $2,000 are granted to students based on class rank, academic performance, overall school and community participation, financial need, college or vocational potential, pre-

college test scores and individual interviews with the Community Scholarship Selection Committee.

The competition among graduating seniors for the scholarships is keen.

The scholarship application process is limited to the high school graduating class of the current year. In this way, limited resources are concentrated to help give the highest number of graduating seniors the help they need to get started in a new phase of their lives.

Assistance from the community is welcome in increasing the scholarship awards so they can continue to be meaningful to graduates, since college costs have been rising steadily.

Scholarships totaling $100 or more will be named in memory or honor of the individual listed or awarded according to the specific requests of the donor. However, a contribution of any size is always welcome.

Send your contributions, for giving to this year’s seniors, by March 1, 2012, to Community Scholarships, Lori Stigers/US Bank, 715 Cloquet Ave., Cloquet, MN 55720.

Selection board members include Kathy Abrahamson, Marilyn Gilchrist, John Gust, Deb Levinski, Peter Myhrwold, Tom Proulx, Shannon Sams, Afton Pender and Lori Stigers.
