The Sixth Annual Thanksgiving Buffet will offer all area residents a free Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 24, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1000 Washington Ave., Cloquet.
The event is sponsored by The College of St. Scholastica and Carlton County community.
Some 700 dinners are expected to be served at the annual event, including those that are home-delivered. Home-bound residents in Cloquet and the surrounding area who would like to request home-delivered meals are invited to call 218-879-9238. Anyone who will be alone on Thanksgiving, or anyone simply wanting to enjoy a meal with others, is encouraged to attend.
Musical entertainment will be provided, and Santa Claus will also pay a visit.
Anyone interested in volunteering for the event is asked to call Volunteer Services at 218-879-9238 to register for shifts on Wednesday (food preparation and set-up) and Thursday (food preparation, transportation, service and cleanup).
Monetary donations are also welcome and can be sent to The College of St. Scholastica, attention: Thanksgiving Buffet Fund, 1200 Kenwood Ave., Duluth, MN 55811.
A similar event, also sponsored through The College of St. Scholastica, is slated to be held at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center on Thanksgiving Day.
This year’s buffet is in honor of Lawrence “Larry” Sorenson, founder of Upper Lakes Foods distributors, which donates the turkey for the event. He died in 2005, but Upper Lakes Foods continues to be a major
supporter.
Sorenson “was an early donor, which gave the buffet its momentum,” said Jack Teske of St. Scholastica’s Food Service. “Without Upper Lakes Foods’ support, I’m not sure it would have had the momentum to
survive.”
