Mentor to help rural families of children with disabilities

A new parent-support mentor has been hired by the Northern Lights Special Education Cooperative to serve rural families with children with disabilities in 12 area school districts.

A new parent-support mentor has been hired by the Northern Lights Special Education Cooperative to serve rural families with children with disabilities in 12 area school districts.

Priscilla Heimbruch will help connect parents to services and resources and understand the special education process.

The program targets families living in the mostly rural districts served by the Northern Lights Special Education Cooperative and receives grants from the Van Gordon Fund of the Miller-Dwan Foundation and the Northland Foundation, among other sources.

The districts served include: Barnum, Carlton, Cloquet, Cromwell-Wright, Esko, Hermantown, Lake Superior, McGregor, Moose Lake, Proctor, Willow River and Wrenshall. Heimbruch can be reached via e-mail at nlsecmentor@gmail.com or by phone at (218) 393-1200.
