A 14-mile section of the Willard Munger State Trail between Carlton and West Duluth that was damaged during the June flood has reopened, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources announced Wednesday.

The trail is open and available for walkers and will be open for snowmobilers when ample snow falls. But because several stretches have been temporarily repaired and resurfaced with gravel, the trail may not be good for bicycles or inline skaters.

Most of the heavy work to repair the flood-ravaged trail is complete, but final repairs, including repaving, won’t happen until next year.

For more information, call the DNR Information Center at (888) 646-6367 on business days.
