Snowmobile safety classes start Nov. 1
The Wood City Riders Snowmobile Club, in conjunction with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), will offer snowmobile safety training classes in northeast Carlton County this fall.
The Wood City Riders Snowmobile Club, in conjunction with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), will offer snowmobile safety training classes in northeast Carlton County this fall.
Traditional 10-hour classes will be offered in Cloquet, Esko and Carlton. In addition, for those students electing to take their training using the DNR’s Snowmobile Safety CD, a four-hour class will be offered in Carlton.
Traditional classroom training will be held in Esko and Carlton on Nov. 1, 3, 8 and 10, and in Cloquet on Dec. 6, 8, 13 and 15. All classes start at 6:30 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. Students must attend all four sessions, pass a written exam, and complete a riding test to qualify for a safety certificate. Register with the community education office at the school at which you plan to attend.
The free Snowmobile Safety CD is available at the community education offices in Cloquet, Esko, Carlton and Wrenshall. The required four-hour classroom session will be offered in Carlton on Dec. 3 and 10. These classes are open to students from any area school. Classes start at 9 a.m. and end at noon. Call the Carlton Community Education Office at 218-384-4464 to register.
Students must complete a riding test to qualify for a safety certificate.
The field test date for all classes is Dec. 17, snow permitting. All students will be assigned a designated time to be at the test site.
All snowmobile safety instructors are volunteers that have been certified by the Minnesota DNR and are members of the Wood City Riders Snowmobile Club.
