Barnum man caught selling marijuana, again

A Barnum man was charged with three counts of felony fifth-degree drug sale of marijuana earlier this month, while he was on probation for the same crime.

Andrew Gary Jennissen, 24, was charged Oct. 7 after people working with the Cloquet Police Department made three different controlled purchases of the drug from Jennissen, buying nine grams of the drug twice in August and 16 grams in October. Jennissen was on probation at the time for charges of fifth-degree marijuana possession and fourth-degree possession of a hallucinogen, both felonies. Two charges of fifth-degree marijuana sale were dismissed in the January plea bargain of the previous case.

When defense attorney Thomas Skare asked that Jennissen be reinstated on probation and released from jail during the Oct. 7 hearing, Judge Robert Macaulay denied the request, setting bail at $20,000 bond/$2,000 cash on the new charges and ordering that the Barnum man be held without bond on the probation violation.

“Obviously, possessing marijuana would be a violation of probation in itself,” Macaulay said. “You are on probation for the sale of controlled substances and now there are these new [drug sale] violations.”

An omnibus hearing for Jennissen was waived Oct. 17 and a settlement conference is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 31.
