The Thunder football game against Ridgewater Community College this Saturday, Oct. 8, will honor area veterans. All veterans will be admitted to the game free of charge. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Bromberg Field at Cloquet High School.
Special activities to celebrate veterans include a military honor guard and the national anthem sung by veteran Jodi Kiminski prior to the game. Also prior to the game will be tailgating with Big Daddy Chicken featuring a two-pound boat of chicken and French fries for $5. Big Daddy Chicken is a student-run entrepreneurship project operated by students in the business program at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College.
Free Thunder sticks will be given out to everyone attending the game as long as supplies last. Half-time contests sponsored by Trapper Pete’s will get Thunder fans involved and will include free drawings for many prizes. The activities are co-sponsored by the Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Student Senate and Anishinaabe Student Congress.
“We decided to create this special day at a Thunder football game to honor and celebrate veterans who have served our country,” said Ted Kiefat, president of the Student Senate. “We have many returning veterans who attend Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, including three who are on the football team this season. One player from last season is currently on active duty in Afghanistan. Thunder football games are fun family events at an affordable cost, we hope lots of people will come out to cheer on the Thunder this weekend.”
Everyone attending Saturday’s game will receive a coupon to purchase two-for-one tickets for the last home Thunder football game on Thursday, Oct. 20.
