Fire burns Sturgeon Lake bar to the ground

A Sturgeon Lake bar was destroyed by fire Thursday morning.

A passerby called 911 to report the fire at Dobos Bar and Grill, 34963 Lake Town Road in Sturgeon Lake, at approximately 2:50 a.m. Thursday, according to Jim Michalski, assistant fire chief of the Moose Lake Fire Department.

Approximately 25 firefighters and eight trucks from the Moose Lake, Sturgeon Lake and Willow River fire departments responded to the scene.

The bar was completely destroyed, Michalski said. There were no injuries.

“We had to bring in an excavator to get at the basement,” he said, explaining that the fire was still going in the basement at 8:30 a.m. When the firefighters were done, all that was left standing was the entrance to the all wooden building.

Firefighters were on the scene for close to eight hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal and Pine County

Sheriff’s office.
