Woman dead after stepping in front of moving train
On Friday, Sept. 23, at approximately 2:30 a.m. a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad employee reported to 911 dispatch that an individual had stepped in front of a moving train in the area of Broadway Avenue and Avenue B in the west end district of Cloquet.By: Jana Peterson, Pine Journal
On Friday, Sept. 23, at approximately 2:30 a.m. a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad employee reported to 911 dispatch that an individual had stepped in front of a moving train in the area of Broadway Avenue and Avenue B in the west end district of Cloquet. The train driver later stated he’d done everything he could to stop the train, but was unable to avoid hitting the woman. The train was traveling at an estimated 15 mph when the accident occurred.
Tracey Lynn Bastien, 46, of Cloquet was pronounced dead at the scene. Bastien was a native of Cloquet and a 1983 graduate of Cloquet High School.
Cloquet Police, Cloquet Area Fire District and Burlington Northern Santa Fe officials responded to the scene. Police do not suspect foul play.
