CEC tennis gets mixed results

The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls’ tennis team continues its string of hectic scheduling, with its top performers continuing to play well.

The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls’ tennis team continues its string of hectic scheduling, with its top performers continuing to play well.

Singles players Victoria Marinho and Dana Hartmann easily won their matches at home Monday against Grand Rapids but the ’Jacks lost the team event 5-2. Marinho defeated Michaela Cleveland 6-4, 6-2 and Hartmann dismissed Linsey Stocco 6-1, 6-0.

CEC also fell 4-3 at home to Eveleth-Gilbert Sept. 15.

Marinho blitzed Katelyn Rice 6-1, 6-0 at first singles and Hartmann needed three sets to defeat Lexi Brascugli. CEC also picked up a win at fourth singles from Lora Chalich, who defeated Chelsea Judnick 7-6, 6-2.

CEC (3-6 overall) will play Ashland on Thursday in a Lake Superior Conference match and then get the weekend off before facing Duluth Marshall on Monday.
