Looking for a few good men (and women)

By: Jana Peterson, Pine Journal

How embarrassing. Here the Blandin Foundation selects Cloquet as a community worthy of its Blandin Community Leadership Program and we have (so far) failed to field enough candidates to even fill the 24-person roster that they ask for.

Actually, enough women have applied – a grand total of 13 – but not enough men, with only nine applications sent in so far.

Granted, the longest retreat – which lasts from Monday morning through Friday noon Nov. 14-18 – is during deer hunting season, but not every potential male leader in Cloquet has to be in a hunting shack during the week, does he?

This is $100,000 worth of top-notch training, and a recipe for an even better community in the future.

The good news?

It’s not too late to apply and there are no costs for the application or the program. Why not give it a shot?

Applications are available online at http://bclp.blandinfoundation.org. Questions? Find more information on Page A2 of this week’s Pine Journal.
