CEC top singles players undefeated

The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls tennis team split four matches over the weekend in a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, the ’Jacks nearly pulled off an upset, falling to Duluth East by a 4-3 team score. The team’s exchange students, Victoria Marinho and Dana Hartmann, won all four of their weekend matches and both players stand at 5-0 on the young year.
Against East, Marinho defeated Caroline Skinner 6-2, 6-4 and Hartmann defeated Grace Heyer 6-0, 6-3. The third doubles team of Katrina Smith and Breanne Baker won the third team point with two other matches going to three sets.
CEC then defeated Denfeld 6-1, with Marinho and Hartmann losing only five games between them in their matches. Katelyn Litke also won at singles, while doubles teams Alyssa Acheson and Reilly Kedrowski, Steph Campbell and Breanne Baker, and Katrina Smith and Jade Alvillar added three more wins for the ’Jacks as well.
On Saturday, the team defeated St. Francis 4-3. Marinho and Hartmann breezed to victory in singles with Smith and Baker winning at third doubles, joined by Acheson and Kedrowski at first doubles.
The team then fell 4-3 to Cambridge. Marinho won 6-0, 6-0 at first singles and Hartmann won 6-1, 6-0 at second singles with the second doubles team of Campbell and Michaela Houser winning the third team point.
