CLOQUET -- And the beat goes on.

Eight different Cloquet-Esko-Carlton players scored, as the Lumberjacks boys soccer team remained unbeaten on the young season by defeating Superior 11-3 in a Lake Superior Conference drubbing Monday afternoon at Bromberg Field in Cloquet.

Moving to 2-0-1 on the year, including a shutout win over Rosemount last Friday and hard-fought tie with Proctor in their opener last Thursday, CEC took a 4-1 lead by halftime against Superior Monday and never looked back.

Cloquet senior forward Landen Straub netted a hat trick, while he added an assist to pace the high-octane scoring attack for the 'Jacks.

Tyler Goebel also added a pair of goals, while Lucas Parenteau, Westin Michaud, Jim Peterson, Hunter Leon, John Scheuer and Alex DeRocher all scored in the rout.

"We played well," said CEC coach Archie Clark afterward. "We knocked the ball around nicely and felt good about putting it in the net today."

However, it has been their fast three-game unbeaten start that has Clark feeling best.

"We played real hard against Proctor," he said. "And we had a super second half against Rosemount. Today we were bigger, stronger and more experienced, but we're playing well."

Aiding CEC's scoring barrage, senior goalkeeper Jarad Weeks had six saves. Superior's Tyler Gravening led the Spartans with two goals in the loss.

The Lumberjacks will next clash with another LSC foe, when they welcome in Duluth Denfeld Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Bromberg Field.
