Cloquet Police are asking for the public’s help in investigating an armed robbery of the Casino Pizza and Sub Shop located at 7 N. 13th St., Cloquet.
According to Assistant Cloquet Police Chief Terry Hill, on Monday, Aug. 22, at 7:15 p.m., workers from the business reported to 911 that a white adult male entered the business brandishing a silver handgun. The suspect demanded that workers open the till and place money into a small box that he was carrying.
Hill said the three workers at the counter were “stunned and surprised at what was happening,” and when they hesitated to respond, the suspect apparently panicked and fled the scene and headed north on 13th Street.
The suspect was described as a white male, 18-25 years in age, approximately 5 feet10 inches tall, with a thin build. He was wearing a tight fitting, dark-colored knit cap, dark-colored pants and a white T-shirt with possibly black lettering. Also, the suspect had on dark-colored sunglasses and a white T-shirt wrapped around his face.
Hill reported the establishment had security cameras on site, but they were not functioning properly at the time of the attempted robbery.
The Cloquet Police Department is asking the public if they have any information about the attempted robbery at Casino Pizza and Sub Shop to call them at 218-879-1247.
As of Wednesday, no leads had yet been received in the case.
A similar crime occurred in Duluth around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night when a young male attempted to rob a delivery driver from Erbert and Gerbert’s Sandwich Shop in West Duluth at gunpoint. The victim refused to give him any money and the suspect ran eastbound. A short time later a caller saw a male, matching the description of the suspect, running towards Super One grocery store at 5800 Bristol St. Officers set up a perimeter and began evacuating the store, while doing so they observed the suspect running inside of the store and he was taken into custody. Hill said the Cloquet and Duluth police departments are investigating any possible tie-in between the two incidents.
