Craft beers made by Cleveland’s Great Lakes Brewing Co. will start appearing on Duluth store shelves Oct. 1.

The company recently announced its plans to enter the Duluth market working with Bernick’s Beverages and Vending as part of the brewer’s strategic growth plans.

Great Lakes’ family of beers — including Eliot Ness Amber Lager and Edmund Fitzgerald Porter — in package and draft will be sold in Duluth as well as its sampler 12-packs.

The Duluth market rollout will include customer appreciation events, meet and greets, tastings and giveaways in the area, said co-owner Pat Conway.

“Many breweries choose a strategy of being a mile wide and an inch deep,” Conway said in a statement. “We prefer to penetrate deeper into existing markets. Entering Duluth is an extension of that idea.”

Founded in 1988 as the first craft brewery in Ohio, Great Lakes Brewing Co. ales and lagers are now in 13 states. In Minnesota, they’re currently available in the Twin Cities.
