It won’t be long now, and the All-School Reunion will only be a memory. I’m hoping there are some great memories to be made and not any “nightmares.” It has been a lot of work putting this event together, and we only hope as a committee that all goes well and all the hard work is appreciated. I know I couldn’t have worked with a better committee. Aurelia Hemmila, Ann Heikkila, Elaine Crouch, Lindsay Lally, Barb Dahl and Linda Larson have done so much to make this event possible. Then there are all the folks who have sent in their memories, those who were the contact people for each class, Northview Bank in Cromwell for their donation of pens, the folks who sent in extra monetary donations for the reunion, Peter’s Hardware for office supplies and other input for the reunion. The Cromwell Historical Club has done a great job putting up displays and updating all the graduation class photos in the hallway. The folks from West Side Church are doing the refreshments in the cafeteria and Ann Collman and her group are working on skits for your entertainment during the afternoon.
Here is the schedule of events for Saturday, July 2 – Kaleb Anderson Memorial 5K Walk/Run starts at the Pavilion in the morning along with a pancake breakfast from 7-11 a.m. Proceeds for these events will go for playground equipment at the Cromwell Park Pavilion. The registration for the reunion at the school starts at noon and runs through 4 p.m. Classes will meet in designated rooms from noon to whenever they want. There will be time for a lot of visiting and mingling with everyone in attendance. The Chmielewski Fun Time Band will be in the small gym from 2-4 p.m. There will be skits put on in the auditorium from 1-3 p.m. for those who want to participate, and/or watch. Dinner will be served starting at 5 p.m., followed by a program with Mary Schmidt called “Playing Dress-Up.” She will have her vintage clothing and does a fantastic job of taking us down memory lane with her humorous and serious dialog. This will be an event to remember. After the program, classmates are asked to help stack the chairs and tables so London Road Rental can pick them up on Tuesday.
The Area Clothing Depot, now located in Cromwell, will hold a special Bag Sale the whole month of July. The first bag will be $4 with a second bag for half price of $2. You must buy two bags to get this deal. Then on Saturday, July 16, bags will be just $1 in honor of Wrong Days in Wright. Wrong Days will be held the weekend of July 15, 16 and 17. Buttons are available in area businesses. Also, check out the posters around town for all the usual events, starting with the Steak Fry, Pie Social and fireworks on Friday, July 15.
If you have friends or family coming for the reunion or Wrong Days, please let me know some details so I have news for next week. News gets a little slim during the summertime, so give me a call or e-mail me with your news at jkh4president@hotmail.com . Calls are also welcome at 218-357-2385.
I just got an e-mail from Brent Bushnell and he asked me to announce that his dad’s memorial gravesite service will be held July 3 at the Wright Pubic Cemetery at 3 p.m. They planned it for this time as his sister Gwynn is flying out from Oregon for the All-School Reunion and will be able to attend. Brent’s wife, Debbie, is due any day now with their second child so everyone is hoping all will work out. Everyone is welcome to meet at the cemetery and give our sympathy and best wishes to the family on the death of their dad, Larry Bushnell, who died May 18, 2011, at 77 years of age.
Wrong Days in Wright is just around the corner, too. I got a letter from Chairperson Andy LaMotte. He is asking for our help and participation in being a volunteer for Wrong Days. If you are interested in helping in any way, call Andy at 218-357-2177 or call Robyn Larson, who graciously volunteered as the food services coordinator, at 218-357-0340. Any help will be much appreciated.
That’s all the news from Lake Renewmanyfriendships and Hello to our fellow classmates who made it back for the 120th anniversary of the school – All School Reunion! Have a safe and Happy Fourth of July!
