The annual Ashley Abrahamson Memorial Softball Tournament was held Saturday and Sunday in Cloquet's Braun Park.
The event remembers Ashley, who was killed in a car accident in 2000 in Illinois. The talented three-sport student-athlete was one of tournament director Sarah Tondryk’s good friends, as the two grew up neighbors and played softball, basketball and volleyball together.
This weekend, Sarah was assisted by her father Ron Tondryk, the Cloquet varsity softball coach, who began the event a dozen years ago.
A total of 25 teams took part in the always-exciting and memorable tournament, as both U-14 and U-12 age divisions were featured.
The weekend was more than just softball. Ashley's brother threw out the ceremonial first pitch and the parade of teams created a feeling of unity for the players gathered there. “Ashley Awards” were given out to one player from each team who best represented Ashley.
