Dan Paul Crawford, 83, of Champaign, Ill., died at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, Ill.

Dan Paul Crawford, 83, of Champaign, Ill., died at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, Ill. Dan was born on Jan. 19, 1928, in Montrose, Minn., the son of Alonzo C. and Selma Tiikkala Crawford. He grew up in Wright and Cromwell, Minn., graduating from Cromwell High School in 1945. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Japan from 1946-1947. Dan married Jeanette Lindholm on Nov. 18, 1950. Following their marriage, the couple enjoyed many years traveling throughout North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois completing various construction projects. They settled in Champaign where Dan found work at the Abbott Power Plant at the University of Illinois until his retirement in 1986. Following retirement, he was able to return to construction and his love of operating heavy equipment. He was active in the Champaign Salvation Army and enjoyed many friends there.

Dan is survived by his wife, Jeanette; a son, Michael (Debra) of Ft. Smith, Ark.; two daughters, Sharon Ortner of Champaign and Kelly Burchett of Mayview, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Eunice Plese, and his brother, Roland Crawford.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 17, from 11:30 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory in Urbana. Burial with military honors will be held at the Danville National Cemetery in Danville.
