A 24-year-old Wrenshall High School alum died Friday after the car he was riding in rolled over when the driver missed a curve on state Highway 23 in Duluth’s Fond du Lac neighborhood just before 1 a.m.
Tim Stephenson was transported to Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Duluth police said the preliminary investigation indicated that a black 2008 Honda Accord driven by Jeremy Shea, 21, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., was traveling east on Highway 23 from Wisconsin. After crossing the St. Louis River Bridge, he failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, crossed the median and rolled. The car came to a stop against some trees on the north side of the highway.
Occupants had to be extricated by Duluth firefighters.
Samuel Rodman, 23, of Duluth was transported to St. Luke’s with life-threatening injuries. As of Wednesday afternoon, Rodman was still in the hospital in serious condition.
James Nelson, 27, of Duluth was transported to Essentia Health for non-life-threatening injuries and has been released from the hospital, according to Jim Hansen, Duluth police information officer.
Shea was transported to St. Luke’s with non-life-threatening injuries and as of Wednesday
remained in the hospital in fair condition.
Hansen said the investigation was wrapping up
Wednesday and confirmed that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. He said it was likely reports would be sent to the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office for possible charges by the end of the week.
All four men were graduates of Wrenshall High School,
according to Facebook.
