A Cloquet man was seriously injured Tuesday morning when he turned in front of an empty logging truck on County Road 61 near Omar’s Gravel Pit.

According to Carlton County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Paul Coughlin, a Berthiaume Logging truck was traveling southbound on Hwy. 61 at approximately 10 a.m. Tuesday when the driver of the car, Brian Keith Buddish, 24,

reportedly attempted a U-turn on the two-lane road in front of the truck. The truck – which was not pulling a trailer – smashed into the driver’s side of the car, crumpling both the front and back doors on that side of the car.

First responders from Carlton Fire and Ambulance managed to get Buddish out of the passenger side of the car and transport him to Community Memorial Hospital. Assisting at the scene were Mahtowa First Responders and Minnesota State Patrol.

On Wednesday, Buddish was still hospitalized, however, the hospital declined to give his condition.

Carlton County Sheriff Kelly Lake said Buddish was cited for not having a Minnesota driver’s license and for failure to yield.
